1. Feeling a lot better…

…But I got even more sunburned today. Blegh. More about today later though cause first I have to discuss the awesome that was Disneyland! Yay!

I have never been to Disneyland and I’ve always wanted to go and I can say honestly that while it was not what I was expecting it was completely and totally amazing.
We started off with a tour called “A Walk in Walt’s Footsteps.” The tour was from 9:30am till about 1pm and it was excrutiatingly boring. Sorry, but it really was. Our tour guide was a guy named Omar and he was just so fake. Honestly. The whole tour felt really scripted and Omar didn’t feel personable at all (unlike IRA, which notice his name is capitalized because he was awesome). We had little headsets so we could hear Omar (unfortunately) and we got to hear a lot of the original speech Walt gave back in the day while he was working on and with Disneyland. During our tour we rode the Jungle Cruise (which was punny) and sat through the Enchanted Tiki Room (which would have been less horrible if I had just dropped acid or smoked a few bowls beforehand). After our tour we got complimentary lunch and were set loose in the park!

We left Disneyland and walked over to California Adventure, which is essentially newer and has more big rides. We decided the best way to start our afternoon was to ride a rollercoaster, so we did. I can say honestly that I have only been on two rollercoasters in my whole life, one in Scotland and the Mummy’s Revenge from Universal. The California Screamin’ was about three times bigger than both those coasters and about three times higher (which for me is scary, heights are terrifying). I decided that I might only ever go to Disneyland this one time so screw my inhibitions, it was game time! AND IT WAS AWESOME (awesome enough to go twice). I think I might lovelovelove rollercoasters.
After the California Screamin’ we rode Mickey’s Fun Wheel (which was cute because we rode it with an adorable Asian family from Canada) and it was considerable less intense than the coaster. Our LA crew got split up at this point and the remainder of us decided we wanted to ride Soarin’ Over California, which was narrated by Patrick Warburton from Family Guy and the Emperor’s New Groove. Epic. The ride was essentially a motion ride were we flew over famous California landmarks and there was wind and smells. It was pretty cool.
At this point we got nibbly, and Alexandra and I (is this correct? Who knows) decided to nom on some caramel corn. Anna and Rachel split a corn dog which was apparently delicious and it was huuuuuge. Mmm.
We started walking over in the direction of The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror which turned out to be so much fun we rode it twice (yeah, we liked things in two’s). You pretty much walked through an old and decrepid hotel, boarded an elevator, rode it up a bunch of flights, giant doors opened in front of you (allowing you to see how high you were), and then you were dropped. We went up and down a few times and it was pretty much epic.

At this point we headed back to Disneyland were we rode the Big Mountain Thunder Railroad. It was a ghetto old rollercoaster that was more painful on the knees than fun to ride. But still kindof fun.
Then we ate! MMMM. A burger, fries, and a drink was $12 but the portions were pretty generous and it was good so I shouldn’t really complain.
We met up with the rest of our group (minus the boys who were tired [/whine]) and rode SPACE MOUNTAIN. I remember hearing about this rollercoaster as a little kid, only because there were commercials for it on my cartoon vhs’s (opening in the Spring of 1995! or something). It was an indoor coaster and you couldn’t see anything at all minus a startling amount of little lights that were supposed to resemble stars. It was fun though.
After that we kindof wandered the park for a few hours trying to decide what to do. We were going to go see Phantasm but the sheer number of people there was overwhelming and we ended up riding It’s a Small World. It. Was. Terrifying. Animatronic singing puppets are not a good idea ever. Blegh.
We rode the Indiana Jones Adventure next, which was fun (minus Caitlin losing her phone for a short spell). We even got chased for about two seconds by a boulder! Yay.
Our last ride of the night was Matterhorn Bobsleds. The amount of people making out in their bobsleds was insane. It was essentially two people to a pod in straddling position and every couple was going insane. The ladies ended up pairing up, with Alexandra and I riding together which of course proved to be insanely hilarious.

So yes. That was Disneyland. I overcame my fear of heights, embraced rollercoasters whole-heartedly, and visited a park I had wanted to see my whole life. It wasn’t quite what I expected but I enjoyed the things we did and the people we were with. Yay!
